Post 1 part 2

Part 2:

I am learning that because of the slow internet connection, I can not put either large or multiple pictures in a post.  So I will solve that problm by small sized pictures and multiple posts!

The next stop was at the fortress of Mukawer.  While this has other names, basically this is the site of Herod's Jordanian Palace.  The significance of this place is that this is where the story of John the Baptist's imprisonment and beheading took place.  John was being held prisioner here and when his daughter danced for him he promised her anything she asked up to a third of his kingdom.  Her mother advised that she ask for John's head.  This is the location of that story.

We climbed the mount to see the ruins (It was destroyed in 70 AD by order of the emperor Titus.

The heat and the still air made it a long and hot walk.  Interestingly enough, as this is located BELOW sea level, the oxygen content of the air is very high.  It was interesting to have my legs get tired and weak while I was not yet breathing heavy!  Wierd experience for us in the high altitudes of Alberta.

The view however, was spectatular!  We could see the dead sea, the mountains of Jereselum, and the Jordan valley.
